Why would she say this, it doesn't make sense to me?

Okay, so me & this girl were talking for about to weeks. No doubt what-so-ever that we didn't like each other a lot & would of dated. When I was at the beach for a week she begged me to come home & how she missed me so much. She always was like I'm so lucky to be talking to you & everything like that. In the past, she's really dated a lot of d-bags, unlike me I'm a really nice & genuine guy. Well anyways, one day we were texting & all but I thought she was mad at me & if I did or said something wrong. She then told me that she doesn't want to have a boyfriend over the summer. After though she said she wants to date me & that we could still talk. Of course I like her to much to just not talk to her anymore but I'm not going to text her or anything like that to see if she'll come around. The thing that really bothered me about it was that she said "she didn't want to be tied down to anyone right now." I don't know what anyone else would think of that but does it kinda make her sound like a skank? I really like this girl, we've met each others parents & all that I just don't understand why it would of come to this. Its not that huge of a deal like I'm heartbroken or something but I don't get girls sometimes. Maybe its just that she's a year younger & I'm going to be a Junior in HS. What would you say to do/handle the situation? & why exactly she might of said all this? I can understand someone not wanting a boyfriend over the summer but would that really stop you from dating someone you really like? Thanks!
