Help? how to tell a gay guy your strait without hurting him?

At school I stood up for a gay kid and we have been hanging out but he tried to hold my hand and things are awkward now and well I know 100% that I am not gay because I only ever have had crushes on girls. So should I just tell him I am strait or what?
